Adapted from Ahn Su-min’s webtoon, the show stars the talented duo of Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo, and it’s available for streaming on TVING in South Korea and on Amazon Prime Video in select regions.
At its core, the drama explores the age-old themes of destiny versus free will, first love, and the lengths one might go to protect their cherished ones. It strikes an incredible balance between the ethereal and the genuine emotions of youth, crafting a narrative that feels both enchanting and strikingly relatable. Ultimately, this story reminds us that love can be a force strong enough to challenge even the darkest of fates.
A Dual Life: The High School Shaman
Enter Park Seong-A, portrayed by the dynamic Cho Yi-hyun. By day, she navigates the typical challenges of high school life, but by night, she transforms into the legendary Fairy Cheonji, a revered shaman who aids her clients in confronting their futures and ailments. Cloaked in mystery, she partially conceals her identity, channeling supernatural forces that remain hidden from most.
When Bae Gyeon-Woo (Choo Young-woo) and his mother seek Fairy Cheonji’s counsel, Seong-A is instantly smitten. However, her shamanic insight reveals a chilling premonition: he is fated to meet an untimely end. As fate interjects and Gyeon-Woo transfers to her school, Seong-A is determined to rewrite his destiny against all odds, bravely confronting the powers that dictate life and death.
Seong-A: The Shaman Bearing Secrets
The portrayal of Park Seong-A is a testament to Cho Yi-hyun’s remarkable talent, as she effortlessly juggles the complexities of being a typical teenager while bearing the weight of foresight. Seong-A’s journey encapsulates the burdens associated with supernatural abilities. Although often ostracized for her connection with ghosts, she remains resilient, embodying both strength and vulnerability. Her unwavering resolve to save Gyeon-Woo resonates with viewers, making her a profoundly relatable heroine despite the extraordinary nature of her gifts.
Gyeon-Woo: The Unwitting Hero
Choo Young-woo portrays Gyeon-Woo as a charming but tragic character, unaware of the cruel fate that hangs over him like a dark cloud.
